PCLOUD / STORAGE DECISIONS
Do you need pCloud Encryption before you buy storage?
Define the files and workflows that need client-side encryption before comparing the total cost.
Write the requirement before choosing an add-on
Storage capacity and a privacy requirement are different purchases. “Encrypted” is not a complete feature specification: you need to know where encryption happens, who holds the key, and which workflows remain available. This article is a documentation-based buying checklist, not a security audit or hands-on test.
Check the specific product
pCloud markets its separate Encryption product for client-side protection of selected files. Do not assume that every storage offer includes that product, or that a promotion includes it permanently. Read the exact bundle and terms. We do not quote an add-on price here because it must match the offer you will actually buy. [E]
Make a requirement sheet
List the files needing this protection, who must open them, devices used, sharing needs, previews, editing and recovery expectations. For each item write required, optional or irrelevant. Then record the official statement or an actual test result. An unchecked feature is unverified, not supported. If shared editing is essential, establish how it works for the protected files specifically rather than relying on a general Docs feature list.
Compare a complete cost, not a partial one
Hypothetical arithmetic: a $499 storage purchase plus a required $150 one-time extra becomes $649. The $150 is an illustration, NOT a current Encryption quote. At a real net annual saving of $100, the payment threshold changes from 4.99 to 6.49 years. Add any independent backup costs and avoid counting the same charge twice. If you cannot confirm that the add-on meets the requirement, a low price is not enough to justify buying.
Buy only after the unknowns are resolved
Before purchase, confirm included features, final total, recovery responsibilities, supported devices and what happens to protected files in the workflows you use. Keep a separate recoverable copy of irreplaceable material. A vendor’s encryption claim is not evidence from an independent penetration test, and no security guarantee is made here. If you need audited compliance or business administration, an individual storage comparison alone is insufficient.
Next step
If the requirements fit your needs, check the current offer and conditions. Do not buy solely on an illustrative calculation.
