PCLOUD LIFETIME / SUBSCRIPTION
pCloud Lifetime or a monthly storage subscription
A buying decision based on capacity growth, migration limits and a separate backup
pCloud Lifetime is worth considering only if the capacity will remain useful, the upfront cost is affordable, and you will keep an independent backup. A subscription is the more flexible choice when your storage needs are uncertain or you may switch services soon. Start with the files you need to keep, not a promised number of years of savings.
Separate capacity from transfer limits
The official pages showed these individual plans on 21 October 2026. Prices are a snapshot, not a fixed offer. The figures below distinguish files stored from data transferred. [1, 2]
Currency check: The official pricing page displayed US$219 for 500 GB and US$499 for 2 TB when checked on 21 October 2026. These are dated USD snapshots, not guaranteed offers. Currency and offers may vary by region. Confirm your currency, applicable taxes, discounts and final checkout price before buying.
| Plan | Lifetime price | Storage | Upload traffic | Shared link traffic |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Premium | US$219 | 500 GB | 1 TB within 30 days |
1,000 GB per month |
| Premium Plus | US$499 | 2 TB | 4 TB within 30 days |
4 TB per month |
Storage is how much you can retain. Upload traffic is data sent into the account over the stated period. Shared link traffic is a separate allowance for people downloading through shared links; it does not describe every kind of download. Do not read any of these figures as a speed guarantee.
Check how quickly the capacity will fill
Write down your current storage and a realistic annual increase. For example, 250 GB today plus 100 GB a year becomes 650 GB after four years. The 500 GB plan would be too small for that unchanged pattern, even if its price looked attractive. This is an illustration, not a forecast of your usage.
Leave some spare space rather than planning to fill the account exactly. Compare the larger plan with keeping your existing subscription, removing files you do not need, or storing some material elsewhere. Do not buy 2 TB solely because its price per unit is lower; unused capacity still costs money. If your existing plan already has enough spare capacity and the features you need, no additional purchase is necessary.
Plan the first migration before cancelling
Check both the retained file total and the uploads you expect within 30 days. A 400 GB library fits within the 500 GB storage capacity and the stated 1 TB upload allowance for one transfer. Leave headroom for changes or repeated transfers, and confirm how they count with pCloud. Your connection and devices also affect completion time.
Keep the old service until you have checked the copied files and tested retrieval. Include any overlap payment in the switching cost. This comparison has not tested migration speed or measured real-world reliability.
Use a cost comparison with an honest baseline
Suppose your existing subscription costs US$5 per month. This is hypothetical, not a provider quote. At an unchanged US$5, US$219 divided by US$5 equals 43.8 months, about 3.7 years. This compares payments only; it does not establish product equivalence or guarantee savings.
For 2 TB, US$499 divided by the same hypothetical US$5 equals 99.8 months, about 8.3 years. Substitute a real subscription price for equivalent capacity and required features.
These calculations exclude independent backup, migration overlap, exchange-rate effects, payment fees and tax differences. Japanese tax treatment and discount effects remain unverified. Check the final checkout amount and your renewal bill. Compare total costs over your intended use period, with the same backup standard on both sides.
For an SSD alternative, compare its current retail price at your required capacity, communication costs, intended use period and backup. Rising SSD prices and cheaper cloud storage have not been established here.
Plan for weak or absent connectivity
On iOS and Android, use “Make available offline” to download selected files or folders in advance, normally over Wi-Fi. Downloads use device storage and are viewed in the pCloud app; mobile Crypto Folder content is excluded. [4] Allow enough free space for your selection: the source gives no fixed requirement. Finish downloading and test viewing in airplane mode. Weak reception need not rule out cloud storage, but if advance downloads are impractical, a portable SSD with a separately maintained cloud backup may suit you. Keep frequently opened files locally and archival copies in the cloud, with independent backup.
Keep a backup outside the account
Keep a copy you can recover without pCloud, such as a separately maintained drive or another service. Test restoring a sample. A second folder in the same account is not independent. pCloud’s terms also advise users to back up their content. [3]
Read the applicable Lifetime and termination terms before paying. A one-time payment does not establish that the service will remain available indefinitely. This article makes no security certification or recommendation for confidential or regulated data.
When to consider buying and when to wait
Consider Lifetime when estimated growth fits the capacity, migration fits the transfer limits, and the upfront cost leaves room for independent backup. Your needs or the service may change before the calculated crossover.
Keep a subscription or an adequate free plan if you need flexibility, storage growth is uncertain, or buying would crowd out backup. Before paying, recheck the price, allowances and terms. Never depend on one account for your only copy.
