Before buying pCloud to move a Google Photos library
Estimate the manual work and check a sample before treating a migration as finished.
Copy first and decide later
A successful upload is not enough evidence to remove your original library or cancel a plan. The useful question is whether the copied files preserve what you need and remain accessible in the way you expect. This checklist is a proposed verification method, not a report of a completed migration.
Know the documented import boundary
pCloud documents Google Photos as a manual import, with up to 2,000 photos selected per run. Another run can begin after the previous run finishes. This is not continuous Google Photos backup. Do not infer full video, album or metadata fidelity from this photo-count limit. [M]
Estimate sessions without inventing a speed
For a hypothetical 12,500-photo library, the minimum number of selections at 2,000 per run is seven. For 30,000 photos it is fifteen. Those counts do not predict hours, failures or duplication; connection speed, selection work and actual content still matter. Reserve time to record each batch and confirm it before repeating.
Use a small acceptance sample
Create a checklist containing an old photo, recent photo, edited image, long video and any unusual format you need. Record the source name, date, size where available, and expected album or other organisation. Copy without deleting. Open the destination copy, download it, and compare the features important to you. Mark each requirement pass, fail or untested. A thumbnail alone is not a full integrity check. No result is asserted here; you must test your own files.
The exit test
Before changing a Google plan, verify completeness, required dates and organisation, downloadable originals, remaining Google quota and an independent backup. If a critical item remains untested, keep the existing arrangement. Check whether the source app’s deletion or sync behaviour affects other devices before any removal. The safest cost comparison includes the overlap while this work is unfinished, rather than assuming a same-day cancellation.
